It's often very simple to fix, it's just a case of doing more things to increase your chances, and not giving up.
So here's a simple checklist of things you should do to increase your chances of having a Lucid Dream.
Dream Diary.
Making sure you have your dream diary near you, and that whenever you have a dream, even if it's not lucid, write it down. It also helps to re read these entries just before bed to get you in the mind set for dreaming.
Sleeping when you're tired. Don't try and go to sleep and dream when you're wide awake. Wait until you can't keep your eyes open any longer.
Room temperature throughout the night.
This is important, make sure there are no cold drafts, or that the heating isn't set too high. The temperature plays a big part in your dreams. Remember that your body temperature naturally lowers when you starting sleeping, so make sure you're not going to be too cold when you fall asleep, or too warm.
Comfortable sleeping conditions.
Having a comfortable bed is a good idea as well, the more comfortable you are, the more likely it is that you'll dream.
Eating cheese before bed.
This is a tricky one, some claim this induces nightmares, but if you're going to bed with the intention of having a lucid dream, you'll be able to stop it being a nightmare by using basic dream control techniques. (What you thin will happen, will happen. Just tell yourself it's not a nightmare, and it won't be) either way, it definitely stimulates the mind for dreaming and makes any dream you do have that much more vivid and real.
Technique.
Whatever dream induction technique you're going to use, focus on it before you go to bed and while you're trying to fall asleep. If you're planning on trying a W.I.L.D practice some visualisations before you go to bed.
Relaxation.
Make sure you're properly relaxed before trying to dream, this can be done by reading, listening to some relaxing music, or meditating.
Aromas.
Having the scent of certain herbs and oils really helps the dream. Lavender is an easy one as most people have some lavender somewhere in their home. Just put some by your pillow so that you can smell the scent but it's not over powering.
Noise and light.
Make sure the light is going to stay constant throughout the night. Thick curtains are good to have so that you're not woken up from a dream by the light in the morning. (obviously if you have to be up early for work or for something else, ignore this one).
A sleep mask is a good idea, also make sure there's no noises coming from your TV or other rooms.
These tips should help you if you're finding it difficult to have a lucid dream, if you're doing all of these and still not having any luck, feel free to send me a message on the contact form.
