Meditation for beginners.
Meditation and Relaxing for Lucid Dreams, Astral travel OBEs etc.
It's very important to relax when trying to perform a Lucid Dream or an Out of body experience. These things require a great deal of patience, practice and willpower, so learning to control your thoughts and your body is vital. Meditation techniques for Beginners. What follows is only a guide and teaches some basic meditation and relaxation techniques. They don't have to be followed to the letter; find what works for you and do that. Relaxing starts with clearing your environment of distractions and obstacles. This is your first step to relaxing, if you're trying to Lucid Dream, make sure your bed is comfortable, the right temperature, you have a circulation of air to the room, maybe a door open and a window open a crack, also make sure your curtains block out as much light as possible. Turn off all electric devices and make sure your phone is on silent. This is the first step. You can also use aromatherapy such as pillow spray or incense sticks to make it more relaxing. If you're trying to perform an OBE, make sure you've done the same but that you are sitting comfortably in a chair with your back straight. This will align your body and allow energy to flow freely throughout your body while you project. That's the first step, creating the right environment. Now onto the next step which is your thoughts. This is where things vary slightly, so to start with, this is relaxation for Lucid Dreaming. Lucid Dreaming requires you to channel your thoughts and to focus on staying awake when your body is asleep. If you're trying to perform a Wake initiated Lucid Dream, this is what you should do to relax. Lay on the bed, and get comfortable, make sure the lights are all off etc, and now start to relax your muscles first. Concentrate on making sure there is no tension, and when you find it, release it and move onto the next body part. When your whole body is relaxed, including your jaw, which is where a lot of tension builds up without you realizing it, you're ready to start your breathing techniques. Focus on your breath, feel it, and hear it. Try and breath very deeply, in and out, with each breath you feel yourself becoming more relaxed and focused. You almost feel the energy going in and out of you, like a cloud of colored smoke. Focus on your breathing for at least 20 minutes until you can start to see visualizations in front of you. From here, perform the dreaming induction technique you wish. |
Now, for Astral projection, the relaxation technique is slightly different.
Relaxation for Astral projection..
You need to focus on your breathing still, but of course, you'll be sitting in a chair, so you don't want to fall asleep, (you can do it in bed but it's easier in a chair). You still want to focus your breathing and as you close your eyes, try and 'look' through your eyelids at a point about a foot in front of your forehead. This is where your third eye naturally focuses and you'll need to focus it to stay alert for the OBE. This involves your Pineal gland.
Hear yourself breathing, and breath deeply in and out for about 20 minutes, but focus your thoughts on 'nothing' literally don't think about anything. You might see shapes and colors, this is normal; it's sometimes known as 'guided imagery' and is the brain showing brief imprints of scenes and patterns. This is where it differs from Lucid Dreaming because with Lucid Dreaming, you're focusing on staying awake and a specific goal in the dream or you're trying to see visualizations, but with OBEs and Astral projection, you want to focus on nothing to start with.
Once you're sufficiently relaxed and your breathing is focused, start to ignore your physical body. Let go of it, and after another ten minutes of breathing, you won't be able to feel or be aware of it. Keep your eyes closed all this time. Next, focus on your energy, and try and 'feel' your vibrations. This is a little difficult at first, specially if you've never done it, but keep trying, it will happen.
For a full guide on how to astral project, and what to do next, see the Astral travel page. So to sum up, Relaxation is all about creating the right environment, controlling your thoughts and your breathing, and focusing. There are other things you can do to help you relax. They are as follows;
1. Control your breathing. As mentioned, it's important to control your breathing and focus your energy.
2. Maintain a regular sleep pattern. This has been talked about before, you need to utilize your pineal gland, and to do this need a regular sleep schedule.
3. Listen to Binaural beats to entrain your brainwaves to focus and relax. There are some links on the sides of this page to binaural beats, they are essentially brain music and will guide your brainwaves into certain states, you can get them for anything but there are tracks specifically for lucid dreaming and deep sleep.
4. Have aromatherapy in your house. Incense sticks, candles, pillow sprays, anything to stimulate your sense of smell.
The next step; Lucid Dream Induction. By the way, a great way to meditate and get into a healthy habit is by waking up early. This is a good way to increase your dream recall and a lot more. For more read this article: How to get up early every morning.
